20 for 2020

I’m part of a group on Facebook that embraces setting 20 goals for 2020. I decided, in my bullet journal, that I, too, would set 20 goals for 2020. Here’s a rundown of my 20 with reasons for choosing each one.

1. Hike 20 Trails

So this one’s fun. I’ve already completed 1/20. I hiked a small trail – though I’m still getting used to “hiking” in Kansas. (It’s pretty flat here). I’m looking forward to scheduling the next hike.

2. Run a 20k+ Race

This one is a second-half of the year goal. I’m still working on losing a little more weight to make running easier on me before building back up to the longer distances – but my goal is to run a half marathon in October. I KNOW I can do it.

3. Visit 20 New Places

We’ve lived in Kansas now for almost 5 years. It’s time to explore the state more. In 2018 for Christmas, my husband got me a couple of books on all kinds of hidden treasures in Kansas. I want to put those books to good use and go explore some new places – and maybe even find a good hiking trail while doing so.

4. 20 No Social Media Days

This one will be hard, but necessary. A lot of what I do for work involves social media. I need to get away from it more – I’ve found being on it too much messes with my anxiety and takes away from other things I want to do. So I need to schedule these and keep to them.

5. 20 Recipes out of 20 Cookbooks

I have close to 450 cookbooks. I need to downsize my cookbooks collection, for sure. But how will I know which to keep and which to pass along? Well, I need to start cooking some recipes out of them, of course. So I want to make at least one recipe out of each of 20 cookbooks. I think that’s pretty doable, right?

6. Watch 20 Classic Movies

We have a LOT of movies. Lots of them are classics that came from my husband’s personal collection when we mvoed in together. Many of those are movies I haven’t seen. Rather than watching brand new movies, I want to go through and revisit 20 classics.

7. Find 20 New (to Me) Musical Artists

This one is hard. I feel like all the time people are talking about this person or that person and because I have 3 kids ages 6 and under I have no idea who that person is. So, I’m going to try to get to know some new musical artists. Bonus points if I see someone new (to me) live?

8. 20 Social Activities

I feel like this one is going to be the most challenging for me. I feel awkward saying, “Hey, let’s hang out.”

9. 20 Hours of non-Girl Scouts Volunteer Work

This one may be the other stretch. I do a lot of stuff for Girl Scouts – but I think I can make this one happen!

10. Frame and Hang 20 Photos

I have so many photos. School photos, 438723432874 photos on my computer, photos I’ve printed…it’s time to get some frames and hang those photos. I have way more than 20 to hang, but starting with this number because it feels do-able.

11. Plant 20 Flowers, Plants, or Trees

So last year, our yard and landscaping got torn up so that we could have foundation work done. I’ve been wanting to plant stuff anyway, so this is just extra motivation to do that. Now…what grows in Kansas, and when do I plant it?

12. Take 20 Days off from Everything

This is another one that will be challenging, but necessary. I do a lot of things, and it’s important to take a day off from that every couple weeks. I have a hard time with doing “nothing,” so I’ll quantify it as I’ll take 20 days off from anything career or community service related.

13. Attend 20 Workout Classes

So, for Christmas 2018, my husband gifted me boxing gloves & 10 classes at the local boxing gym. I’m hoping those are still good. I want to make use of them and 10 more classes – either there or maybe hot yoga or something else like that.

14. Plan 20 Date Nights

Date nights. Do you know how many nights my husband and I sit on the couch watching tv shows and news? Almost every single night. we need more dates – even if they’re just home dates. We’ll be celebrating 8 years of marriage and 9 years together in May and June respectively.

15. Try 20 New Things/Activities

I realy want to expand my horizons in 2020, so I want to try 20 new things or activities. I’d LOVE to go zip lining this year, so I’m really excited about the possibility of trying that out. I need to come up with a list of things to give a try.

16. Do 20 Science Projects with the Kids

I love science. My kids love science. We are awash in science kits and science books and science stuff in this house. My 6 year old wants to be a scientist; so I want to do 20 science projects with the kids this year. That shouldn’t be too hard, right?

17. Do 20 Craft Projects

Last year, I totally wound up losing my crafting and sewing mojo. This year, I want to complete at least 20 craft projects – bonus points for techniques I haven’t done before or for something that can be used for decorating our house!

18. Write 20 Short Stories

I’m really good at starting short stories, I’m not so good at finishing them. This year, I will start and finish 20 short stories.

19. Plan 20 Special Days with the Kids

Life gets busy. We do a lot of fun things with the kids, but we have zoo, science center, and botanical gardens memberships. There’s no excuse for being bored on a Saturday – plus hiking! I want to do more fun days with the kids.

20. Learn 20 New Skills

I want to learn 20 new skills. There are always things I want to learn how to do – and our house and yard have no shortage of projects. I’m pretty sure I can learn 20 new skills this year.

How about you?
